Geb for the whole family

Child Mode lets a parent hand the device to a child for a session — with stricter content filters, a curated tool list, and a separate parent-controlled memory layer.

What is Child Mode?

Child Mode is a per-session supervised setting on a regular Geb account. The parent (an 18+ account holder) configures a child's first name, then activates a session before handing the device over. While the session is active:

• Geb's tool list is restricted to a small allow-list (deny-by-default).
• Web search uses strict safe-search.
• Image generation applies a stricter content filter.
• A different long-term memory layer (KoLc) is used in place of the parent's main Key of Life memory.

The parent re-enters their account password to deactivate, so a child cannot turn the safety controls off.

What is KoLc?

KoLc — short for Key of Life, Children— is a separate memory namespace stored under the parent's account. Anything Geb learns from a child session lands in KoLc, never in the parent's main Key of Life memory. The KoLc namespace is keyed on the child's name, so a household with multiple children gets isolated memory per child.

The parent can ask in adult mode "what has my child been learning?" and Geb summarizes it from KoLc using the get_child_learning_summarytool. The child cannot query the parent's KoLc, and KoLc memory is never used to ground replies during another child session for a different child.

What's restricted during a session?

By default, every tool is denied. The narrow allow-list during a child session is:

• Web search with strict safe-search.
• Wikipedia summary lookup.
• A calculator-style code execution sandbox (no network, no files).
• Curated child-safe text and educational content.

Adult-only surfaces — connectors (Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive), prospecting, document upload, KoLc readback, and account settings — are filtered out at the model layer. The child session never even sees those tools.

What about privacy?

Child Mode does not create a separate account for the child. Activity is associated with the parent's account, in the parent-controlled KoLc namespace. There is no separate consent collected from the child — Geb's Terms of Service make the parent the responsible party.

Quebec residents: this feature is part of an 18+ adult account. We do not invite children to sign up for Geb on their own. If you delete your account, KoLc memory is deleted alongside it as part of the standard account-deletion cascade described in our Privacy Policy.

How do I activate Child Mode?

1. Sign in to your Geb account.
2. Open your Profile page and scroll to the Child Mode section.
3. Set your child's first name and toggle the global Enable Child Mode switch. Save.
4. When you're ready to hand the device over, click Activate Child Mode now.
5. Geb will ask for your password and show a one-time educational notice on first activation.
6. To return to your adult session, click the Exit Child Mode badge at the top of the chat and re-enter your password.
